2009 Alamance County Swimming Championship, Saturday, August 1, 2009

Parking can be challenging, it's easier to park close to the facility if you arrive early. Plan accordingly and pack on Friday evening!

We would like swimmers to start arriving at 7:45 am and no later than 8am. We will need to have event, heat and lane numbers on the swimmers before we warm-up. Please note if you are a timer, stroke and turn judge or runner there will be a meeting held from 8-8:20. Clerk of Course, Scorers and Ribbons meeting will be held from 8:20-8:40. The meet will start at 9am.

The Warm-Up schedule for Swim Championships will be as follows:

MAC & GSC 8:00 – 8:15

OFRC 8:15 – 8:30

DSC & ACC 8:30 – 8:45

6 & Unders will warm up in the “non-laned” area of the pool. The Swim Championships will start promptly at 9:00am.

Please remember the NO COTTON RULE! (This means no underwear under your swimsuit, no t-shirts in the pool, etc)

Backstroke Turns

Backstroke turns were an issue at the last meet. Here are a couple of good videos to illustrate the technique. If you find you are still too far from the wall after your roll, make the pull stroke longer and slower, and scull your hand back and forth. Practice this as much as you can this week before the County Championship meet on Saturday, August 1st. See Coaches John, Jamie, or Frank if you have any questions. Wednesday, 7/1/09

We had a big group at the afternoon practice today. The kids are progressing well and looking forward to the next meet with Alamance Country Club (July 7, 2009). It's great to see this much enthusiasm on a holiday/vacation week!

Gibsonville is hosting an extra dive meet this Tuesday June 30th. Again this is a dive meet only! Below is the warm up schedule. Please contact Coach Chris or Jennifer Lee if you have any questions.

We will begin the meet at 5 o'clock as a normal meet would. We need to

Swim and dive meet at Olde Forest

We had a great swim and dive meet at Olde Forest yesterday. When I get the compiled results, I'll post them here.

Dive Meeting Monday, June 22

Jennifer Lee will be holding a meeting for all dive parents on Monday, June 22 at 6pm. Meet her at the top deck of the pool. The meeting will last only 10-15 minutes.

Swim and Dive Meet at Olde Forest on June 16

The swim & dive meet at Olde Forest is tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16. Here's the schedule:

• Morning practice at Dogwood at 830 am.
• Divers should arrive at Olde Forrest at 415 pm.
• Swimmers should arrive at Olde Forrest at 545 pm.

Directions from Mebane:

Take I-85 South (I-40 West) to exit 140 (Elon University). Take exit 140 and turn right at the 1st traffic light onto University Drive. Proceed to the 4th traffic light (1st after passing under the overpass) and turn right onto Westbrook Drive. Go about 50 yards and take the 1st left onto Forestview Drive, take the 3rd right onto Oakview Dr, and right onto Pinedale. Club is straight ahead.

The younger swimmers are learning about freestyle, backstroke, kicking, and diving from the starting blocks. Several older swimmers have been giving the little ones extra help learning to swim. Thanks to Kristi, Allison, and Lauren!

June 1, First Practice

We had a good turnout for practice today and our swimmers are looking good! It looks like Dogwood will be the team to beat in the Alamance County Swim League this year. Just from watching the first practice, we seem to have good depth in all age groups. We are especially deep with our older swimmers, many of which are experienced EAHS swimmers, year-round swimmers, and returning Dogwood veterans.

The first practice of the 2009 season starts today! We hope everyone can be there. Dive practice is 5-6 pm, swim practice is 6-7:30 pm.

Swim team coaches John King and Jamie Lord will be returning this season.  The dive team will be coached by Chris Dawkins and Jennifer Lee.

Practice Schedule:

Practices will start on June 1st.  We will only have evening practices until school gets out.   We plan to have a Mock Swim Meet on June 9th.   We will need the kids' times for the first meet on June the 16th.
